Assistive Technology Lab
DSPS offers an Assistive Technology Lab designed for students with disabilities who are enrolled in mainstream college credit classes and whose disabilities result in educational limitations in the area of math, reading and writing. Students may receive tailored, ongoing support from our in-person DSPS Lab Assistants, who help students get set up with DSPS processes and understand how to use their approved accommodations, including the use or demonstration of assistive technology. Through this resource, students can navigate coursework and foster academic independence within an inclusive space designated for their success.

Resources Available in the AT Lab
- Assistive Technology" is defined by the Technology-Related Assistance Act of 1988
as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially
off-the-shelf, modified, or customized that is used to increase, maintain or improve
the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities."
- Used as a compensatory tool, assistive technology helps individuals with disabilities
bridge equity gaps in daily life while enhancing productivity and independence in
school, work, and beyond. Its implementation is a key step toward providing equal
access and fostering inclusive participation. *** Assistive technologies may only
be accessed if a DSPS counselor has approved the accommodation for a student. ***
- You may print 15 pages a day for free, either black and white, or color printing.
- Several scanners are available in the DSPS lab, each equipped with instructions at the station. Please be mindful of the materials you scan and ensure that any personal or confidential information is deleted afterward. There have been multiple instances where sensitive documents were left behind in the scanners.
