Student Guidelines for DSPS Test Taking with Accommodations

Accommodation Letters

  • DSPS accommodations can be requested for both online and in-person classes starting two weeks before the term begins.
  • Accommodation letters must be sent to instructors and confirmed by them—ideally at the start of each term—to use test proctoring and receive approved accommodations.

OPTION 3: Proctored Canvas Tests with Respondus

3–5 Days Before the Test:

  • Email your instructor a reminder about your DSPS test accommodations.
  • Ask about test details:
    • Format?
    • Proctoring method?
    • Time limits and availability?
    • Class test duration (so you can verify extended time)?

On Test Day:

  • Before starting, check Canvas:
    • Time Limit should reflect your extended time.
Example: For 1.5x extended time on an 80-minute test, you should see 120 minutes.
    • Available Time should accommodate your full extended time.
Example: An 80-minute test should not be limited to 80 minutes if you need 120.

If your extended time isn’t applied or the time window to submit the test is too short,
take a screenshot and email your instructor immediately, cc: dsps@sbcc.edu.
